The Community Technology Center @ NGEC  gives individuals access to technology and related training.  Census 2000 data indicates that poverty and low education attainment are factors that influence computer ownership and internet usage.  Community Technology Center integrates a variety of software applications that teach and enhance skills in the following programs:

Supplemental Education Program uses technology to address academic  deficiencies in reading, language arts and math for public school youth.

Computer Training offers adults in-depth, high-quality computer training on a variety of software applications.

Career Development / Job Placement equips adults with the necessary skills to obtain a job and advance through the career market.

Course Offerings:

Digital Literacy Classroom Training.

The goal of Digital Literacy is to teach and assess basic computer concepts and skills so that people can use computer technology in everyday life to develop new social and economic opportunities for themselves, their families, and their communities.

The Microsoft Digital Literacy Curriculum provides absolute beginners with the first course they need to begin to use a computer. This course is ideal for learners who are a bit shy about working with a computer.

The Digital Literacy Curriculum consists of five courses:

Computer Basics

The Internet and the World Wide Web

Productivity Programs

Computer Security and Privacy

Digital Lifestyles

Starts October 3, 2011

Microsoft Windows 7 Essentials / Microsoft Office 2010 Fundamentals.
Learn the new details of Microsoft Windows 7 and Microsoft Office 2010.


Windows 7 Essentials.

Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
log on to Windows 7, explore its interface, and identify the different components present in the interface.
customize the Windows 7 desktop.
manage files and folders.
Use the common tools and programs available in Windows 7.
browse the Internet.

Office 2010 Fundamentals
Office 2010 is an all new way to work in Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint and Access, with enhancements that build on the new changes from Office 2003 to Office 2007. 
With training, users new to Office 2010 save valuable time knowing where to find common tools, and by using the new streamlined tools of this dynamic interface.
